Star Valley Health has a new family physician who just opened his practice in August and his name is Dr. Sean Bailey.

He hails from Utah, and he did his residency in Ventura, California. He says he chose there because that program teaches what is nicknamed “cowboy medicine”.

“If you were the only doctor for 150 miles, what would you need to know how to do,” Bailey said of the practice. “I wanted to know all the things to be a good small town family doctor.”

He wanted to come to Star Valley because he traveled here with his dad and brothers to do outdoor activities growing up. He always thought the area was beautiful and he wanted to live here. When he decided to be a physician, he knew he could do that anywhere and so he chose to come join the community.

He says what made him choose this field was his mentor growing up was a family physician as well along with him wanting to be a jack of all trades type doctor.

“The other thing was when I was in medical school, I realized I liked everything,” Bailey said. “I really liked surgery. I really liked cardiology. I really liked dermatology. I really like obstetrics, but I didn’t think I could do just like one thing. I liked everything so much that I wanted to do a little bit of everything all the time.”

He is currently just at the Alpine Clinic Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday each week and he is currently accepting new patients. He says he hasn’t done work with Urgent Care, but he will likely pick up shifts there as well. If you are interested in meeting with Dr. Sean Bailey, you can call the Alpine Clinic to set up an appointment.
